Katherine Cleland, president of Cleland Marketing, has 20 years of marketing and product development experience at some of America’s best known Fortune 500 companies, including Hewlett-Packard (HP- Semiconductor, HP- InkJet Products, HP-New product development, HP-OEM), The Clorox Company, Bank of America, and Proctor and Gamble.

Since 2003 she has redirected her vision to the more dynamic needs of entrepreneurs and small businesses, working with hundreds of early stage start-ups, research commercialization and growing businesses.

In addition to serving her client base, Ms. Cleland was a founder of Choice Solar Corp, serving as the Global Marketing Manager and Finance Manager, and she assisted with the launch of Signet Solar, a global solar panel manufacturer.  She was also a co-founder of the Willamette Angel Conference and served on the board of the Seattle Angel Conference.  She has worked with hundreds of start-ups on business plans, pitch decks, marketing plans and launch / go-to-market plans and implementation.

Her broad background enables her to evaluate business models holistically, evaluating markets for potential and gauging the right mix of marketing elements, especially price, product/solution and go-to-market to increase profitability and growth. Katherine Cleland teaches and gives seminars on marketing strategy, marketing planning, online marketing and related topics, including the University of Washington CoMotion Lunchtime series on Digital Marketing, and Market Sizing, Oregon State University Austin Family Business Conference, the BEC,  Corvallis-Benton Chamber Coalition’s Business Boot Camp, Shoreline community college lunch and learn, Oregon SBDC Digital Tune-up Program funded by the X foundation, San Diego University “The Brink” Marketing, and Idaho SBDC train the advisor.

Technology and Finance

With a degree in chemistry from Princeton University and an MBA in Marketing and Finance from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, Ms. Cleland offers technology focused entrepreneurs and small businesses a full spectrum of high caliber marketing services, anchored in an understanding of the technology, and practical experience and focused on the bottom line.

Non Profit Marketing and Communications

Believing that business shouldn’t always be about business, Ms. Cleland champions sound strategy, business planning, multi-constituent, effective marketing, and intelligent website design and digital outreach for select non-profits. She has served on the boards of eight non-profits and has assisted with marketing and communications for many others, including, several grass-roots political organizations, AAUW Seattle, Sound Theatre Seattle, Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center, Corvallis Economic Development Partnership,  The Corvallis Public Schools Foundation, Ashbrook Independent School, The Corvallis- Chamber of Commerce, Girl Scouts of Santiam Council, Zonta International,  Zonta Club of Corvallis, Zonta Club of Everett  and Playground Ideas.
